Nanogram's IP gamble pays off, but real success awaits products, Small Times - March 18, 2004
The company at the fulcrum of this week's action is Nanogram Corp., which is reaping the rewards of an innovative IP strategy.
NeoPhotonics and NDC license the same intellectual property from NanoGram Corp. "The objective of NanoGram Corp. is to maximize the value of its assets in several market verticals," said Tim Jenks, who is chief executive of both NeoPhotonics and NanoGram Corp. (the IP holding company), which owns 28 patents.
Jenks said the sale of NDC, which was acquired for $45 million in cash by Wilson Greatbatch Technologies Inc., does help to validate the business model of NanoGram Corp. (the IP holding company) insomuch as the company generated a sizeable return on a $9.2 million investment early last year.

NanoGram Corporation is a world leader in the development of innovative nano-structured materials and process technologies for communications, electronics and energy applications.
NanoGram's platform process technologies use industrial CO2 lasers in creating a high-energy chemical reaction zone where raw materials are combined at the atomic level in measured ratios to form precise crystal structures and compositions at high speed and high volume.
NanoGram's technology begins with the design of reactions that are driven by the high-intensity energy of the laser.

News - SCIENCE PUBLISHES RESEARCH VALIDATING FLUIDIGM CHIPS FOR MULTI-STEP, NANOGRAM SCALE SYNTHESIS OF MOLECULAR ...
Currently, FDG is synthesized using large volumes and masses of reactants with bulky and expensive electromechanic devices, requiring synthesis times of about 50 minutes.
With Fluidigm's IFCs, FDG may be prepared at the nanogram scale on a chip; thus reactions are more efficient and synthesis is reduced to approximately 15 minutes, leaving a wider margin of time for clinical use.
The requirements of expedited chemical kinetics and low-mass quantities of chemical reactants, together with the emerging need to expand, and diversify the catalog of molecular imaging probes, provide a unique opportunity for Fluidigm's IFC technology, according to the authors of the paper.
