Narita International Airport (formerly New Tokyo International Airport) ( Japanese : 成田国際空港 Narita Kokusai KÅ«kō) ( IATA : NRT, ICAO : RJAA) is an international airport in the eastern portion of Narita, Chiba, Japan.
Residents in surrounding regions were compensated for the increased noise-pollution with home upgrades and soundproofing, although some farmers who refused to give up their land were forced to keep henhouses close to the threshold of the new runway.
On July 13, 2004, Bobby Fischer was detained at Narita Airport for allegedly using an invalid U.S. passport while trying to board a Japan Airlines flight to Ninoy Aquino International Airport outside Manila ; he left Japan a year later after obtaining asylum in Iceland.

Narita Airport, formally known as New Tokyo International Airport, is located in the city of Narita in Chiba Prefecture, about 60 km outside of Tokyo.
The Narita Express is a fast, comfortable and expensive airport train into central Tokyo (serving Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shinjuku and Ikebukuro Stations), the Tokyo Tama region, Yokohama and Saitama.
Because Narita Airport is located about 60 km outside of Tokyo, a taxi ride into central Tokyo is extremely expensive and not recommended to common travelers.

Narita International Airport President Masahiko Kurono told reporters that the move is intended to increase the price of its shares in the run-up to a planned listing three years from now by using profits to bolster the business strength of the company, the operator of Narita airport.
Although the shares of the corporation, with a capital of 100 billion yen, are entirely held by the government at present, it plans to make its debut on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, possibly in fiscal 2007, after striving to secure a greater competitive edge over other Japanese airports.
