		District Balaghat is bounded by Rajnandgaon in the East, Seoni in the West, District Mandla in the North and District Bhandara of Maharashtra State in the south.
		The district extends from 23 °37'N to 24 °80' N and from 79 °57' E to 80 °58' E and height from sea level is 392 m.
		The district is bounded on the north-west by jabalpur district; on the north and north-east by Shahdol district; on the south-east by Bilaspur-Rajnandgaon district; on the south by Durg and Balaghat district and on the west by Seoni district.

		The two small tracts of Chandgarh and Selani are to the north of the river, on which side the District is bordered by the high cliffs of basalt, intersected by numerous deep and dark ravines and alternated by precipitous wooded hills, mostly alineated in a north-south direction.
		The forests abound in the belts along the Narmada in the north and along the hill slopes in the south and south-east of the Kaveri- valley.
		Earlier the name Satpura was applied to the hills which separate the Narmada and the Tapti valleys in East Nimar, east of Asirgarh hill and was styled as Satpura or seven sons of the Vindhyan mountains.

	SSNNL resumes construction of Narmada dam in Gujarat
		According to project chief engineer O P Gulati, the construction of the dam, which was suspended on July 18 at a height of 119 metres because of monsoon and increase in the water level in the dam, had resumed today and was likely to be completed within a couple of months.
		The water in the dam which was overflowing by more than 9 metres during the peak of the monsoon in August, is currently flowing at 117.49 metres as against the dam height of 119 metres, and is likely to decrease further.
		According to sources, after the 121.92 metre heigh was achieved at all 29 blocks of the dam, another two-and-a-half-year would be required for installation of radial gates and erection of piers and bridges to fully accomplish the task.

		Announcing the imposition of orders shortly after the weekly Cabinet meeting, Narmada development minister Jay Narayan Vyas told newspersons this in effect, put a ban on the kar seva on December 4 and 5 announced by Shetkari Sangh leader Sharad Yadav.
		The minister felt the kar seva could have been carried out at places where the canal was currently being dug so that work, currently under way in different parts of the state, could be completed at an early date.
		Claiming that the Centre had extended financial and legal support to the Narmada project "like never before," he said, the kar seva would in fact prove counterproductive for the project itself.
