Narsarsuaq is a small community with aprx 200 people mainly employed at the airport or the associated hotel.
Narsarsuaq was built during World War II as a US Army Air Base, and the old officers mess is now a museum.
Trout fishing is possible at Narsarsuaq, mainly in June and July, and both in the fjord and the river.

The Church Topography of the Eastern Settlement and the Excavation of the Benedictine convent at Narsarsuaq in the Uunartoq Fjord.
I have attempted to prove that the Benedictine convent actually was established at Narsarsuaq in Uunartoq Fjord, and that the church I found in 1946 at Narsaq in the same fjord is the Vagar Church of the sources.
I have demonstrated that there were at least two Norse settlements at Narsarsuaq, the oldest of which may date back to the landnáma period, and that there existed at least one church before the one excavated, which may be dated about 1300.

 2003 Holiday in Greenland
Narsarsuaq harbour was fairly busy with about 30 small boats on two spurs from the quay.
It wasn't easy to find the correct boat, there is a lot of passing on of hiring takes place, so just because you book with one person it doesn't mean you will travel on their boat.
Since most tourists stay in Narsarsuaq and the boats tend to do return trips it can be easier to find space on the very early boats in the return direction.

A previous record of long distance pollen transport to southern Greenland, at Narsarsuaq, have been observed in 2002 through the capture of pollen grains from trees, hickory and hemlock, oak, beech, hornbeam, walnut, growing in North America.
The "3000 m" air mass over Narsarsuaq on June 4th, 2002, was at a lower elevation on June 1st, when it passed over the area where "exoctic" trees are growing.
The "3000 m" air mass over Narsarsuaq on may 20th, 2003, was at a lower elevation on May 14 to 16st, when it passed over the area where the "exoctic" trees are growing.

The kryolit-mine in Ivigtut seems infinitely small when we pass a landscape that is somewhat flatter than the one on the pic.

The flight from Copenhagen was delayed - GreenlandAir had chartered their 757 out, and used a small Swedish charter carrier (Nordic AirLink) instead - a MD80, which was unable to fly the whole trip, but had to stop in Iceland to fuel up.
Narsarsuaq is a v e r y small village - 180 or so people only, but a pretty nice hotel.
One day later this was adventurous again - the helicopter flight from Narsaq to Narsarsuaq was nice, but then we had to leave all our luggage in Greenland, as the charter pilot (Nordic Airlink MD80 again) was afraid of not making it across the rocky ridge with the additional weight.

 Long distance transport of pollen to Greenland
Four pollen traps were recently placed at coastal sites in East and West Greenland in order to assess long distance transport of pollen to the Arctic domain.
By identifying potential vegetation source areas associated with air mass pathways we were able to produce the first detailed record of pollen transport from eastern North America to Narsarsuaq, southern Greenland.
The record is based on observations and on a transport and dispersion model used to calculate back trajectories of the air masses.
