Prince Naseem's fall from grace | the Daily Mail
Hamed’s glittering career (36 fights, 31 knockouts, 35 victories) drew comparisons with Muhammad Ali; but thanks to a voracious appetite for junk food, he has gone from fighting featherweight to ‘heavyweight’ (5ft 2in and nearly 13 stone) and no longer packs the punch he used to.
Perhaps Hamed wasn’t aware of this when Mr Burgin was trapped in the mangled wreck of his VW Golf in 2004, or when his victim spent three-and-a-half weeks in intensive care, or when he appeared in court with one arm protected by a metal cage.
Hamed was overtaking a queue of traffic on the brow of a hill — something he has being doing for as long as anyone can remember — when he ploughed into Anthony Burgin’s VW Golf.

 Naseem Hamed - Definition, explanation
Hamed rose swiftly through the ranks and in (un)popularity, his excitingly unorthodox style winning a large fan base, and his innate arrogance generating a large group of 'anti-fans'.
This fight marks something of a watershed in Hamed's career, as he was forced, for the first time, to abandon his 'hands-down' style of fighting throughout the entire course of the battle, given the calbre of Kelley.
It was in 2001 therefore, to the shock of the great majority of the Boxing community, and to the gratification of a smaller minority of experts and 'anti-fans', that Hamed suffered his first loss, being beaten comprehensively by Marco Antonio Barrera, a champion of long standing, to lose the WBO's version of the Featherweight title.

Marco Antonio Barrera Prince Naseem Hamed boxing
I would be the last to knock Hamed's religious convictions but I do believe that as a fighter he must accept responsibility for his actions when he enters the ring and the truth is that he fought without passion and seemingly without any kind of tactic against a supreme technician.
Emanuel Steward, now departed from the Hamed camp has publicly voiced his disapproval of the way the fighter's camp was run, especially the sparring and even going as far as to say that in order to build the Prince's confidence, tapes of Barrera's less impressive performances were shown to him.
Personally I find it hard to believe that Hamed didn't see the Barrera-Morales fight where he was at his destructive best, possibly though the camp didn't go through how Barrera could conceivably outbox their man using his height and reach advantages, relying too much on the force of Hamed's power to overcome that obstacle.
