Nashua (1952-1982) was an American-born thoroughbred racehorse, perhaps best remembered for a 1955 match race against the horse that had defeated him in the Kentucky Derby.
Nashua won his famous match race with the great thoroughbred Swaps who had defeated him in the 1955 Kentucky Derby.
Nashua died in 1982, and is buried at Spendthrift Farm.

His horse, Gallant Man, ended up losing by a nose to Iron Liege, and Shoemaker was suspended for 15 days, even though his was an innocent error and might not have been decisive.
A horse flipped backwards and fell on him, breaking his pelvis, rupturing his bladder and causing other internal injuries as well as nerve damage in his leg.
