Cliff Hawks, the 36-year-old general manager of the 1.33-mile Nashville Superspeedway, is in the frustrating position of running comparatively minor league events at a major league facility in one of the nation's bigger racing markets.
"Nashville is a fantastic motorsports market," he said, adding the city sits at the intersection of three interstate highways — I-40, I-24 and I-65 — making the trip an easy trek for tens of thousands.

APAC of Tennessee, and MACAsphalt of Winter Haven Florida were the two contractors hired to lay new asphalt to the speedway's.596 mile 18 degree banked oval,.250 flat inside oval and entire length of pit lane.
"The speedway was changed from a half mile to five-eighth mile oval with 35 degree banked corners at the end of the 1969 racing season", said Nashville Speedway Promoter Bob Harmon.

Garrett says the car is running great and wants to thank the “New Crew” in Nashville for all the help and for making the #24 car run better than it has all year.
The #24 cars’ new engine was running beautifully and Garrett was sitting pretty in second position when the green flag fell, by the end of the 1st lap the cautions were out and so was the car in first position.
Garrett Gray’s Racing Team left Olive Branch Mississippi at 6:45am and arrived at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway at 10:30am and had 2 practice sessions before qualifying with a 19.853 that put him in 11th position for the race.

Buddy Rice continued his mid-season charge to the front of the Indy Racing League IndyCar title fight Friday at Nashville Speedway, taking his Rahal Letterman Racing Honda G-Force to an average speed of 201.231 mph as he claimed the pole for Saturday's Firestone Indy 200.
This year's Indianapolis 500 winner qualified on the pole and won two weeks ago at Kansas Speedway, and also was pole qualifier at Homestead, Florida and Indianapolis.

Mark Wofford, director of Middle Tennessee Raceway Ministries, affirmed that the temperatures were soaring in Tennessee the weekend of the ARCA and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races at the Nashville Super Speedway, but he also reports that some significant ministry activity took place, as well.
The fans who came to this speedway for some action-packed racing were not disappointed, but high humidity and temperatures in the 90's caused some fans to stay away.
Wofford indicated that in light of that the ministry tent outside the front gates of the NSS were not as busy as they could or should have been.
