The Sacred versus the Secular: Nasr's Critique of Modern Science   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Accordingly, Nasr's relentless attack on modern science is focused on the analysis and critique of the errors of this philosophical purview rather than being a sentimental attack on modern science itself as it is commonly and mistakenly assumed.
Nasr rejects this subjectivism, insists on the intrinsic qualities of nature, and makes the bold epistemological claim that the world of nature, or the external world, displays certain qualities intrinsic to itself, which cannot be confined to the feelings or the cognition of the knowing subject.
Nasr's critique of modern secular science is based, as we have seen, on his conviction that the philosophical foundations of modern physical sciences are marred in a serious way and that their misdeeds can be countered only by rediscovering the sacred view of the cosmos.

 al Tawhid
For Nasr, on the other hand, a pluralistic acceptance of the esoteric unity of all religions is a core feature of the perennial philosophy, and is merely one more aspect of the relationship between the One and the many which is to be found in so many variations among the writings of the sufis.
Nasr is right to insist that the religions as revealed by God are different crystallizations of the divine message; but he is wrong to think that because of this, the doctrines accepted by the major religious traditions today are all divinely sanctioned.
Nasr asserts, "The different religions, I believe, are to confirm the separate existence of various human collectivities." [9] In this vein, Schuon contends that there are national or racial predilections for some forms of religious expression.

Nasr comes to the rather startling conclusion that as long as humans have lived on earth, they have not evolved at all.
Indeed, at one point Nasr observes that Islamic science is in the most profound sense an art, one that enables the human to contemplate the visible cosmos as an icon revealing the spiritual world beyond it.
Although Nasr acknowledges the mode of revelation in religions that center on a nonpersonal Supreme Reality rather than a personal God, and sometimes uses "revelation" simply to refer to the world of faith, he is most concerned with direct revelation, communicated to a human prophet.

Misrepresenting the facts is not being understanding - Viewpoint
Nasr, who left Tehran University in 1979 (what happened in Tehran that year?) to live among the infidels in the Great Satan, uses his book to present a defense of Islam after Sept. 11 and recycles the inane argument that those who have killed in the name of Islam are not "true Muslims."
Perhaps most offensive is when Nasr writes, "When some people attack Islam for inciting struggle in the name of justice, they forget the Boston Tea Party and the American Revolution." Nasr equates systematic attacks carried out by Muslims on innocent men, women and children to the actions of our founding fathers.
If there is one thing I got out of Nasr's book and the academic convocation, it is the bitter taste of so-called "intellectual discussion." Needless to say, not all Muslims are terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslims.
