  Tochigi Prefecture - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
On October 1, 2005 the towns of Nasu and Karasauyama from Nasu District merged to form the new city of Nasukarasuyama.
On January 10, 2006, the town of Minamikawachi from Kawachi District, the town of Ishibashi and the village of Kokubunji (both from Shimotsuga District) merged to form the new city of Shimotsuke.
On March 20, 2006, the city of Imaichi, the town of Ashio from Kamitsuga District, the town of Fujihara and the village of Kuriyama (both from Shioya District) merged with the old city of Nikko to form the new city of Nikko.

NASU was also impressed by Russian writers, like Tolstoy, and particularly, by Tolstoy's philosophy of the equality of man, which contrasted sharply with the reality he saw about him, especially in the case of the Japanese farmers.
In September 1914 NASU was appointed Lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture of Tokyo Imperial University.
NASU presented this approach to the Indian experts and the Indian government with some apprehension, as he was afraid their leprosy experts might feel offended.
