Owing to the subtlety with which Nasum's openness to different influences is integrated into its total sound, the particular inspiration for any given song or passage is nearly impossible to infer simply by listening to the music in question.
While Nasum's lyrics can be quite penetrating in their criticism, the band thankfully does not indulge in the temptation to adjudicate between right and wrong in a sermon-like fashion, as is often the case with politically informed bands.
Ultimately, the world may be going to helvete in a handbasket, but that does not negate the personal responsibility of every individual to approach life with an open mind and a willingness to think critically.

 Nasum CD Reviews
Those unaccustomed to grindcore will likely dismiss Nasum as mere noise, but beauty is in the ears of the beholder - it's not often that I'd ever use the word shred to describe grindcore but "Human 2.0" totally shreds everything in its vicinity.
Nasum spew forth a pit of hate for topics as diverse as government lies, apathy that kills the spirit, and songs about rebellion for the new millennium.
Nasum is Mieszko A. Talarczyk on guitar and lead vocals, Jesper Liverod on bass, and Anders Jakobson on drums and low vocals.

Nasum --- Official Relapse Records Band Page
NASUM (NAW-ZUM) was formed in 1992 by Anders Jakobson (guitar) and Rickard Alriksson (drums/vocals) with the intention of creating true, straight-forward grindcore in the old NAPALM DEATH tradition.
With a lyrical base that touches on the political, the analytical and the sarcastic delivered with a frightening conviction, NASUM ensured that their bark was equally as venomous as their bite, destroying anyone and anything in their path.
NASUM gigged around Sweden and the rest of Europe in support of the album and, after welcoming new members Urban Skytt (REGURGITATE) on second guitar, and Jon "Elle" Lindqvist (SAYYADINA) on bass.

nasum was special to me because for every annoying slab of static was a huge hook that laid waste to all other grind bands i've heard (not including napalm death, who were obviously doing this way before nasum).
nasum is still one of only a few grind bands i can even tolerate.
For Nasum to use the bass as bass is supposed to be used in rock and roll leads me to think that Nasum wants to rock, not just play fast and drink beer.

Nasum - Grind Finale - Review - Stylus Magazine
In short, Nasum represented the purest distillation of the grindcore ethos ever committed to tape, interrogating the human condition as thoroughly as Sartre, but reaching its not dissimilar conclusions in ten seconds instead of 800 pages.
Evidence of Nasum’s careful policing of its artistic consistency is apparent on “Fury,” left off Helvete in 2003 for sounding too melodic; it’s a great song, with a captivating guitar sway, but it failed to meet the Nasum aesthetic and was thus cut.
Nasum refused to make those compromises to accessibility, holding a tenacious philosophical commitment to the abrasive sound that best complemented its critique of contemporary society.

MetalReview.com - Metal Review of Nasum - Helvete   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Nasum play "political grindcore" and their music sounds a lot like punk w/ its simplistic and over usage of power chord after power chord blanketed by way too many predictable blast beats.
But if Nasum is the cream of the grindcore crop then count me out because this stuff is way too short, too simple, too overdone, and too short-haired for my liking.
I like Nasum, but I like a lot of other grind bands better, and I reckon Helvete is definitely their poorest album.

Nasum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nasum (pronounced Nah-sum) was a Swedish political grindcore and deathgrind band that was formed in 1992 by Anders Jakobson (guitar) and Rickard Alriksson (drums/vocals), two former members of the goregrind band Necrony.
On February 17th 2005 it was confirmed that his body was identified, and that he died as a result of the Tsunami Disaster on December 26th.
By the second half of 2005 he had however made a decision to return to the scene, with his new death metal band Coldworker.

 nasum
Nasum hails from Sweden, these days known more for its melodic death metal than its torturous grindcore.
But Nasum does not leave it at that as do many of its peers, possessing a knack for crafting the perfect hook, a sudden groove which — when juxtaposed with such percussive flurries — showcases an impeccable sense of dynamics seldom, if ever, spotted among grinders.
In short, Nasum keeps things interesting, consistently challenging the listener’s tolerance but not without providing some choice aural nuggets as a reprieve of sorts.

 Nasum - Inhale/Exhale review
Nasum out of Sweden have been around for a very long time.
Inhale/Exhale is Nasum's first full length album, and they display a very strong influence of classic grindcore, although they also throw in a slew of groove and top it all off with some outstanding production.
Apparently Nasum likes it as they focus way too much time on it, using it as both intro and outro to the song which stretches this generic ditty well past the three minute mark.

 Utter Trash--Nasum
While many grindcore bands today spin tales of zombies and gore, Nasum (Anders - drums and vocals, Mieszko - guitar and lead vocals, Jesper - bass, and Urban Skytt - guitar) prefer to follow the path of bands like Napalm Death with a more thoughtful, political approach to their lyrics.
The Finnish band's latest release on Relapse Records, 'Helvete', cements their position as one of the top bands in their genre with a collection of brutal anthems intended to wake the listener up and get them to think about what's going on in the world.

He varies his style a bit in many of the songs though, sometimes using it for various sound effects or looping feedback at the beginning of songs.
The mix is great with the drums and bass carrying the rhythm and the thick guitar tones and blood-curdling screams pulling it all together.

it doesn't stray far from nasum's already impressive discography, but it also sounds very unique, allowing for many repeated listens, which is hard to come by in grindcore.

Their first release was a four-way split-3" MCD including Nasum, Retaliation (Swe), Clotted Symmetric Sexual Organ (Jap) and Vivisection (Jap).
The release was called "Grindwork" which was released in 1994 along with the split-7" EP with Psycho, "Smile When You're Dead".

What’s less arguable is that Nasum are one of the few grind bands I can actually tolerate (Pig Destroyer, Squash Bowels, Rotten Sound and Morgue being some of the others), but I’ll admit, after the absolutely blistering Human 2.0, the follow up Helvete, while a good album, didn’t sit with me so well.
Well now with a new label, it seems Nasum are back proper, and while there is still some moment of controlled grooving, almost harmonic vitriol on Shift, they seem less obtuse and fit in better with the album as a whole.
The majority of the tracks are classic power chord based Nasum with barely room to breathe between assaults as “The Engine of Death”, “High on Hate”, and “Cornered” deliver short, painful grindcore stabs.

Killing, for what cause?/There's no reason!" It must be a Swedish thing, although Sweden hasn't conquered and enslaved Europe since 1648 or so.
Nasum's other extremely violent songs "The New Firing Squad," "I'm Not Silent," "Worldcraft" and "The Breathing Furnace" all speak of an incredibly oppressive society that must be from life.
The two songs in Swedish "Laag Om!" and "Du är Bevakad" may hold the key to the madness expressed on this harsh, evil, painful album.

Ever since Napalm Death unleahsed their 28 songs in 34 minutes "Scum" debut in 1987, in all of its grisly, eye-with-scalpel-opening glory, and arguably invented the genre, grindcore has been labelled everything from "mindless noise" to "the end of music".
A scorching, lethal cocktail of punk nihilism, abstract conceptualism and searing extreme metal riffage, "Human 2.0" forged its forward-thinking grindcore identity out of bashed-to-bits contemporary metal grooves, rabid bursts of noise and a heralthy dose of bile-fuelled lyrical social conscience.
Well, on the other side, Nasum has always been one of the best grind bands out there.

Human 2.0 is Nasum's second album, and the one that really put the band on the map as a grindcore powerhouse.
The title and cover art are meant to evoke a sort of man versus machine theme -- or of man and machine becoming more and more closely intertwined -- but the "2.0" aspect also applies to the music's place within the (by this point) maturing grindcore genre.
