Nat Hentoff has been a hero of mine since I was a teenager, so it pains me to say this, but we need to call this behavior by name: it's an ugly new form of McCarthyism.

The Huffington Post, where it appeared, is the "blog." The person Hentoff quotes posted a "comment." He is one of many such "commenters," representing all points of view.

Jazz | JazzTimes Magazine > Columns and Features > Final Chorus
From syndicated columnist to social historian, Constitutional scholar and music critic, Nat Hentoff has played many roles in the field of journalism since the 1950s, but none more notable in the eyes of jazz fans than his roles as leading jazz historian, biographer and anecdotist.

Apart from Hentoff's fame in the jazz world, he has also become a fixture in the debate over free speech; a dual-tasked spokesperson whose writing on jazz music and the First Amendment has done much to concretize the link between the two ideals.
