Among the movie stars calling prime time home these days, perhaps the most surprising convert is screen icon Donald Sutherland, who's been butting heads (and heads of state) with Geena Davis' president as Speaker of the House Nathan Templeton on ABC's Commander in Chief (Tuesdays at 9 pm/ET).
Not counting a few guest stints on such '60s series as The Saint and The Avengers, this is his first real TV gig.

Nathan Templeton (Donald Sutherland) on "Commander in Chief": This powerful politician’s smile is like the gaze of the cobra; it’s scary enough to freeze his prey in place as he prepares to devour them.
Sutherland’s Templeton, who’s got President Mackenzie Allen in his sights, is one of the few compelling (and believable) villains on the current TV landscape, and the rocky first few months of the Allen administration should provide many more juicy showdowns with this crafty pol.
I wouldn't include Nathan Templeton in my list of favorite TV characters, but I do agree that Donald Sutherland brings a palpable malice to the role.
