 A NATIONAL PRESERVATON PROGRAM FOR AGRICULTURAL LITERATURE
NAL staff and the USAIN Coordinator will both serve on the Technical Advisory Group to be assembled for the Mann Library project to monitor developments closely and assist in determining project standards; they will also seek involvement in other national groups working on establishing standards in the digital area.
NAL is the major repository for the documents produced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the library has taken many steps in the past to preserve portions of this literature.
As an example of this approach, with funding from New York State, Cornell and the New York State Library are filming 1,800 volumes on the history of New York state agriculture and rural life.

NAL thanks all those who contributed suggestions for the 2005 edition and welcomes users of the thesaurus to send comments to: Thesaurus Staff or by writing to Lori Finch, Thesaurus Coordinator, National Agricultural Library, Room 011, 10301 Baltimore Avenue, Beltsville, MD 20705.
A mirror site of the NAL Agricultural Thesaurus was established at the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), Michigan State University, beginning in August, 2004.
In 2003, NAL implemented the thesaurus as the controlled indexing vocabulary for their in-house bibliographic database, AGRICOLA, in conjunction with the implementation of a new electronic library management system.

The thesaurus was prepared by staff of the National Agricultural Library in Beltsville, Maryland, to meet the needs of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), for an agricultural thesaurus.
The initial development and maintenance work is done by the Thesaurus Team at National Agricultural Library (NAL, ARS, USDA).
National Program Staff of the Agricultural Research Service (NPS, ARS) and National Agricultural Library (NAL) funded and supported the first edition.
