Rawabdeh resigns from National Constitutional Party
Touted by the tabloid media as the "party of the regime," the NCP was one of the main reasons leading to the Islamist opposition boycott of the elections for fear that it might lose for the NCP.
Rawabdeh, who was the party's deputy secretary general, ran on the party ticket for the November elections and won one of Irbid's seven seats in the current Parliament.
The party fielded 11 of its leaders for the November elections but only two made it to the 80-member Lower House, Mr.

A travesty of democracy: Indonesian parliament anoints Abdurrahman Wahid as president
It is worth considering how Wahid, who heads a party with 12 percent of the vote in the June national elections and just 51 members in the 700-seat MPR, came to win the presidency, defeating his rival Megawati Sukarnoputri by a margin of 373 votes to 313.
From the outset, it was clear that the Golkar Party and the army, the key props of the Suharto military regime, would play a major role in determining the next president and vice-president, and therefore the composition and policies of the next Indonesian government.
It was widely reported in the Jakarta media that Megawati had reached a deal with Golkar in early October that would hand the vice-presidency to Tandjung and a number of key ministries to the party in return for its support for her run for the presidency.

 Party Programme
Their awakening assumes a variety of forms and is often led by various types of party and non-party forces, including at times the opposition parties of the ruling classes.
While tilting the balance of class forces through protracted and vigorous political struggles, the Party is prepared to utilise such opportunities independently or in coalition with like-minded forces provided the Party enjoys the strength to ensure the fulfillment of its own commitment to the electorate.
But in a country where democratic institutions are based on essentially fragile and narrow foundations and where even small victories and partial reforms can only be achieved and maintained on the strength of mass militancy, the party of the proletariat must prepare itself for winning the ultimate decisive victory in an armed revolution.

 Asia Society - Publications -
What this complex system seems to mean is that voters will continue to vote for a party, but candidates will include people known to them at least at the district level, so by voting for a particular party they will also, by extension, be "voting" for people they know.
The election law provides that the commission will be composed of one representative from each party contesting the elections and five members appointed by the government.
Under that system the party is supreme, and it is the party and the party leadership that decides who is elected.

LAKSAMANA.Net * Review - Politics: Voting with the Feet
Analysts said the National Awakening Party (PKB), running in fourth position, was likely to be the key party sought to join with one of the major winners to form a coalition.
Among the parties in the alliance were Abdurrahman's National Awakening Party (PKB), Vice President Hamzah Haz's United Development Party (PPP), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the National Mandate Party (PAN).
The parties that appear to have gained the most are the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), which was running at around 7% of the popular vote, and the Democratic Party of former security minister Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, at a similar level.

A National Party No More is a firsthand account from the enigmatic senator who has confounded his Democratic colleagues.
Many party loyalists will not like what Senator Miller writes; yet his credentials are beyond question, for few Democrats have worked longer or stronger for the party and its candidates.
With the growl of the Marine sergeant he was, Senator Zell Miller leaves no doubt that he believes his own Democratic Party is badly out of step with most of the country and needs to shape up or ship out.

It's proof once again that the Republican Party is NOT the party of limited government.
This professor recognizes that the "religious right" has considerable influence and a specific agenda for the government of this nation, but what this professor does not realize is that religous zealots are the same as radical liberals or moderate democrats, in the respect that they are a threat to the constitutional liberty afforded to us.
Yes, the nation was founded on separation of church and state but only in the sense that the government can't force you to be religious.
