 National Centre for Popular Music
As a birthday treat for me this year, Gill and I went to the above centre not long after it had opened.
Downstairs you had an art gallery dedicated to music memorabilia, a shop, cafeteria and a cafe bar.
Best for me was the TV mixing setup where you could pretend to be a production editor with a Phil Collins concert.

Recently, Ware worked on a project initiated by the National Centre For Popular Music, which is located in his home town of Sheffield.
"It became clear early on that it was going to take a lot more work than anticipated, because no-one had really thought about how to make popular music work in 3D.
Unfortunately, against my advice, they set up the seats around the walls facing inwards, rather than in the centre facing outwards, which meant nobody is sitting near the sweet spot."

The idea of the campaign, to an outsider, seemed to be to find a sustainable use for the building that benefitted music and Sheffield as a whole.
The one exception is Republic, but that's because they went to the effort of building a club.

Vibrant new future for former National Centre for Popular Music - Yorkshire Forward
The former National Centre for Popular Music (NCPM) closed as a visitor attraction in 1999 due to low visitor numbers.
The school, which has an international reputation as a centre of teaching and research excellence in the creative arts, design and the humanities, will be relocated in a new building on the site of the current Students’ Union– the Nelson Mandela Building.
To make way for the new building, the Students’ Union will move to the former NCPM, where they plan to run cultural events and organise activities, which not only attract their 27,000 members but also bring in people from the city.
