 Duke to Partner with Taiwanese University in Photonics Research and Education
DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke University and the National Chiao Tung University of Taiwan formally agreed to establish new collaborative education and research programs in photonics and electro-optics, in a ceremony held Tuesday on the Duke campus.
Chun-Yun Chang, president of the National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), and Duke President Nannerl O. Keohane signed the agreement after touring the Duke campus and the future home of Duke's Fitzpatrick Center for Photonics and Communication Systems.
NCTU is a premier research and educational institution located at the heart of Taiwan's electro-optics industry.

TAIWAN R.O.C. National Chiao Tung University was founded in 1896 under the name of Nanyang College as part of the effort to meet the urgent need to introduce western civilization to China.
The University was dissolved in 1949, when the communists occupied the Chinese mainland.
The University has five colleges: College of Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Management, College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; fifteen undergraduate departments and twenty-three graduate institutes.

The sinter of dam sediment fired at 1,050°C had a less than 15% ratio water absorption, and its compressive strength and bulk density met the Chinese National Standard (CNS) for first level brick.
In this study, an attempt was made to use water treatment plant (WTP) sludge and dam sediment as raw materials for brick-making through the sintering process.
