The National Film Board of Canada (usually National Film Board or NFB) is a Canadian public filmmaking organization established to produce and distribute films that inform Canadians and promote Canada around the world.
An episode of the cartoon The Simpsons, E-I-E-I-(ANNOYED GRUNT), has the Simpson family watching a Zorro movie whose production is credited to the National Film Board of Canada.
The film specifically questions accounts of Bishop's solo mission to attack a German aerodrome on June 2, 1917, for which he was awarded a Victoria Cross, and suggests the event was imaginary and that Bishop exaggerated his own accomplishments.

The National Film Board of Canada, established in 1939, was the principal focus for Canadian FILM activity for the first 2 decades of its history.
The NFB was founded 2 May 1939 under the terms of the National Film Act and following a report on government film activities by John GRIERSON, who was appointed the first film commissioner in October 1939.
McLean's replacement (1950), Arthur IRWIN, calmed the storm, initiated a new National Film Act, restructured the NFB along modern bureaucratic lines and planned to move the NFB from Ottawa to Montréal (completed 1956 under Irwin's successor, Albert TRUEMAN).

The National Film Board of Canada celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1989 with a record of over 17 000 productions to its credit and almost 3000 awards in international competitions.
Its two major purposes were to produce films that taught Canadians about other parts of Canada, and to distribute these films as widely as possible.
The board was accused of being too political and when Igor Gouzenko, the soviet cipher clerk who defected in 1945, claimed there were communists in the NFB, its future was threatened.
