Film Archive Action Defending the National Film and Television Archive
Since the National Film and Television Archive is a national heritage, we believe that it is in the public interest to disclose this – along with the documents on Collections Care Policy, Collecting Policy and the Costed Strategy required by the National Audit Office.
We urge the Department of Culture, Media and Sport urgently to institute a properly qualified and independent enquiry to consider the future of the National Film and Television Archive as a national heritage, and the establishment of a constitution which will permanently protect it from future threats of this kind.
• The recently appointed new executive of the British Film Institute is also threatening further erosion of the national film heritage, notably the planned transfer of the book library (and perhaps the National Film and Television Archive itself) to an institution of higher education.
