National historic sites across the country are currently involved in preparing Commemorative Integrity Statements (not, it should be emphasized, having statements prepared for them).
When one considers that the legislation governing national historic sites in Canada deals first and foremost with the historic place, not the parts thereof, our inability to address effectively the state of the place was a major deficiency.
The concept of commemorative integrity was developed to meet a real problem that did not become apparent until we were forced to report on the state of national historic sites.

Eisenhower was named Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army in November 1945, and in December 1950 was named Supreme Commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and given operational command of NATO forces in Europe.
