The National Hockey Association (December 2, 1909- December 11, 1918) was a professional ice hockey organization with teams in Ontario and Quebec, Canada.
At the time of the league's founding in 1910, the Eastern Canada Hockey Association which dated from 1906 and was itself the successor of the first recognized major hockey league, the Amateur Hockey Association, was in the midst of a political battle.
That season would prove the NHA's last, as in a power play to oust unpopular Toronto owner Eddie Livingstone, the remaining clubs met in November of 1917 to form the National Hockey League, using the exact constitution and playing rules of the NHA.

The National Hockey League was founded in 1917 in Monteal, Canada after a series of disputes in the Canadian National Hockey Association (NHA) between Edward J. Livingstone, owner of the Toronto Blueshirts, and owners of other teams.
The first was a strike by the National Hockey League Players Association in April 1992 which lasted for 10 days, but the strike was settled quickly and all affected games were rescheduled.
The National Hockey League (NHL) is a professional sports organization composed of hockey teams in the United States and Canada, where it is also known by its French name, Ligue Nationale de Hockey (LNH).

The National Hockey Association was reorganized with the addition of the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Shamrocks.
At the end of the 1913-14 season an agreement between the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) and the NHA saw the Stanley Cup awarded to the winner of a championship series between the two league winners.
