It saddens me, greatly, that the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players Association continue on in their third month in a total impasse in their Collective Bargaining dealings, unwilling to negotiate and reluctant to budge on their stances concerning how the league should operate financially and other differences that both sides have.
After a few weeks of cynical and more cynical takes on labor negotiations, with all hype that has been surrounding talks the last few days I have been hoping to hear something big in the media, something huge - something that will fall silent unless you are a hockey fan….
That fury would be captured, and used by Darryl Sutter before game 5, as he launched a Gretzkyesque tirade against the NHL and it’s decision making, suggesting that the league was cheering for Tampa to win, and that it was the world against the Flames.

Only as much time as the NHL would need to have the CBA negotiations declared to be at an impasse, thus allowing the league to impose the provisions of a new agreement and get back into business.
Settling the labor dispute that has shut down the National Hockey League could take months.
The NHL Board of Governors unanimously approved the lockout during a meeting in New York yesterday, and shortly thereafter, Bettman confirmed that the league will be laying off about half of its staff -- "in excess of 100 people" -- with most of them losing their jobs Monday.
