Compromise on union recognition for managers at National Irish Bank
According to a Labour Court ruling issued in early 1999, the National Irish Bank ( NIB) is not obliged to discuss pay issues with the Irish Bank Officials Association ( IBOA) in cases where managers choose to join the Association.
In early 1999, the Irish Labour Court ruled that the National Irish Bank may talk directly to its managers about pay issues on a one-to-one basis, but must recognise their trade union, the Irish Bank Officials Association, in respect of all other matters.
In March 1998, IBOA - a trade union affiliated to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions ( ICTU) - requested a meeting with management to discuss the bank's new proposals on managers' pay, indicating that the vast majority of managers had not accepted these proposals and were seeking IBOA's representation.

Dáil Debates Official Report - 26-3-98
It is important that the Central Bank as regulator of the banking system be in a position to quickly establish the facts of a case and for National Irish Bank to make these available to the public.
I would, therefore, urge the banking industry in general to make a special effort to ensure that the customers fully understand their system of charges and interest so that they can be confident that they will be informed whenever charges are levied by the bank or whenever charges are varied.
It is also concerned that bank customers should be able to rely on the fact that the charges levied by their bank, whether these charges are made up of interest or fees, are no higher than the standard charges which that bank applies to that particular type of account.

Irish Aires News: 03/03/05 - Follow the Right Money
National Irish bank, Northern's 'sister bank', both under Don Price's management for the Irish group of National Australia Bank Group, was under intense investigation through 2003, 2004.
Taking advantage of the upheaval, National Australia Bank Group added National Irish Bank and its Northern Ireland affiliate, Northern Bank, to its roster of small banking entities in 1999 (this date is reported differently in different places).
Tracing the history of Northern Bank’s management, the inescapable answer appears: one of the world’s largest bank robberies, which managed to occur right under the noses of PSNI in the heart of a city governed by law nearly martial in its applications, was an inside job.
