 Smithsonian: National Museum of African American History and Culture
The legislation also established a National Museum of African American History and Culture Council to advise the Smithsonian Regents on museum issues including, recommendations on the planning, design and construction of the museum; the administration of the museum; and acquisition of objects for the museum’s collections.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture was established on Dec. 19, 2003, when President Bush signed into law legislation establishing the museum as part of the Smithsonian Institution.
The new museum will be the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, art, history and culture.

 Museum of the American West | Welcome & History
The Women of the West Museum, founded in 1991 in Boulder, Colorado, was the first museum in the nation dedicated to tracing and interpreting the history of women of all cultures in the American West.
When the museum opened to the public in November 1988, its creators had been focused for several years on the institutional mission to explore the broad temporal, topical, and geographical elements of the history and peoples of the West.
When the museum opened to the public after three years of planning, the cases and walls displayed objects that had been originally envisioned as ideal, and the collection was given a context by the story told by the objects and labels in the galleries.

In an effort to increase awareness of upcoming news and events, the National Museum of the United States Air Force Public Affairs Division is launching a monthly e-mail newsletter.
The National Museum of the United States Air Force will offer several aerospace activities, including an opportunity to practice landing a model aircraft hanging from a string, during Family Day on Jan. 21.

 The September 11 Digital Archive
George Mason University’s Center for History and New Media and the University of New Orleans, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History, organized this project.
Submissions will be permanently archived in the September 11 Digital Archive in conjunction with the National Museum of American History's exhibition, "September 11: Bearing Witness to History" which is now on a national tour.

 Star Spangled Banner
In 1964, when the Museum of American History opened, the flag was moved to a prominent place inside the museum's Mall entrance, an awe-inspiring testament to our nation's independence.
When Commodore George H. Preble, U.S. Navy, was preparing a history of the American flag, he borrowed the Star-Spangled Banner from a descendant of Colonel Armistead, and, in 1873, photographed it for the first time.
The flag had become a popular attraction; in 1912, the owner, Eben Appleton, of New York, believing that the flag should be kept in the National Museum, donated it to the Smithsonian on the condition that it would remain there forever.

Among the items on loan from the American Jewish Historical Society of Waltham, Massachusetts were pieces of Levy's navy uniform and images of his mother and maternal grandparents.
