The Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory, the fourth component of the initiative, was established at NCI’s Frederick, Md., facility in 2004.

The first report was issued in mid-May and is entitled, "The National Nanotechnology Initiative at Five Years: Assessment and Recommendations of the National Nanotechnology Advisory Panel."
