National Nature Reserves in England are managed by English Nature and are key places for wildlife and natural features in England.
From these 200+ reserves, English Nature has selected 34 as "Spotlight Reserves" (marked with S in the list below:
NNRs are managed on behalf of the nation, not always by English Nature themselves, but sometimes by non-governmental organisations such as the members of The Wildlife Trusts partnership, the National Trust, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or others.

 Derbyshire UK - Derbyshire National Nature Reserves
The Derbyshire Dales National Nature Reserve is managed by English Nature and consists of parts of five separate limestone valleys in the Peak District National Park - Lathkill, Cressbrook, Monk's, Long and Hay Dale.These represent superb examples of all of the major wildlife habitats of the White Peak Natural Area.
Other habitats represented on the Reserve are rivers and streams (the water of the River Lathkill being among the purest in the country), species-rich scrub, heath on limestone, lead spoil, flushes, dewponds, screes, rock exposures and caves.
There is also a regular, although infrequent, bus service which runs to the Reserve.

 Manchester Bird Sanctuaries & Nature Reserves, Martin Mere, Leighton Moss, Wildlife Trust, Frodsham Marshes, the Quinta, Mersey Estuary and Ornithology around Greater Manchester
Woolston Eyes Reserve is an area of water, marsh and reed beds situated between the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey near Warrington.
Two hundred and twenty species have been recorded on the Reserve, including thirteen species of raptor, more than thirty species of wader, all five grebes, the three woodpeckers, and five species of owl.
It is intended that, over the next few years, interpretation displays will be installed on the site to add to the experience of the visit.
