The sport of ploughing matches is fashionable
Despite the language barrier, Jim won his international class and has since notched up an unrivalled 27 British National Championships, and three International Championships.
Jim estimates that a second-hand, general-purpose plough might be picked up at a sale for £200; a couple of horses for £1,000 to £2,000 and a pair of harnesses for £1,000.
It was probably in the genes — both Jim’s uncle and grandfather were accomplished horse ploughmen — and soon Jim was learning the skills from his dad and an array of old hands keen to pass on their art.
