Daily Headlines : Pro-democracy rally in Lagos:Police arrest Soyinka
Femi Aborisade and four other pro-democracy activists were allegedly arrested in Lagos and later released yesterday by the police which stopped a rally the activists planned to hold under the aegis of Citizens Forum (CF) to protest “the inhuman policies” of the Obasanjo administration and demand the convocation of a National Conference.
The explanation by Falana that he was the lawyer to NLC and that since Labour recently had the May Day rally in Lagos for which no permit was procured, the CF members thinking was that no permit would be required for their own rally was also unhelpful.
They all stood by the road side and attempted to conduct an illegal rally inspite of appeals by the Police to the effect that they should respect the laws of the land, especially since there was no Police permit granted for the rally.

 [Scgp-discussion-list] FW: DEMOCRACY RISING PROPOSAL
Funds: The GPF will not be asked to fund any of the expenses of this rally, as Democracy Rising will organize the rally as a fundraiser and it will pay for itself.
Reason for Tampa Bay venue: Ralph Nader and Jason Kafoury (the Democracy Rising rally organizer) favor holding a DR rally in the Tampa Bay area, but may be willing to organize one elsewhere in the state as well if favorable conditions exist to do so.
This committee will: a) work with Democracy Rising organizers and others to plan and execute the Democracy Rising rally; and b) work with Florida Greens to facilitate the effective participation of the GPF and its locals in the rally program.

 Blog for America
Reinforce the importance of a proactive energy policy for national security, how energy efficiency and CAFE standards and hybrid cars reduce the probablility of societal disturbances (eg blackouts) and terrorist threats (drive down the price of oil and there is greater global stabiltiy).
So this is why I think a Clark-Dean partnership and Clark-Dean partnered campaign effort can be the most effective stratgeic effort to rally the entire country around a nationwide effort to throw the Oil & Energy monopolists and social facists out of their offices and take the country back for the American people.
The extreme right wing of the Republican Party has shown nothing but contempt for democracy.

Neo-Nazi Group Plans Historic Site Rally (phillyBurbs.com)
NORFOLK, Va. - Citing the First Amendment right to free speech and peaceable assembly, the National Park Service granted a neo-Nazi group's request to hold a rally at a national monument to democracy.
The National Socialist Movement, which claims to be the nation's largest Nazi party, did not respond to requests for interviews Friday, but the Minneapolis-based group said on its application that it chose the Yorktown Battlefield because of a desire to honor Washington.
However, the group probably will not have the rally on its chosen site - Surrender Field, which is where the British army surrendered to Gen. George Washington to end the Revolutionary War.

PCS South Essex IR - Defend PCS Democracy rally
The defence of democracy within PCS was not the issue of his choosing, as he would prefer to be discussing the campaigns against privatisation and for restoration of national pay bargaining.
The PCS is a new union, which is starting to address the issues of national pay bargaining, equal pay for equal value and privatisation of public services.
Whatever the outcome of the court case, there is an important battle ahead for PCS members in which the campaign for democracy must be kept going.

Terry Maxwell, who was at the rally with two of his five children and his 11-year-old niece, agreed to speak to me only after asking if the Voice was a "homosexual paper" and being reassured that it was not—at least not exclusively.
Like many in attendance, she had heard about the rally through a Christian radio station.
Wallo kept her beatific smile beaming as I asked her whether she would be in favor of civil unions or other legal arrangements in lieu of same-sex marriage.
