 MANIPUR- in a strange whirlpool of Cross-Current Insurgency
The Nagas of Manipur were supporting the movement of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) demanding a sovereign 'Nagalim' (greater Nagaland) including the Naga inhabited territory of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Burma.
Gen. (Retd) S.K.Sinha, PVSM, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in his foreword in ACDIS (Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security) Paper written by Jaideep Saikia quoted B.K.Nehru, Governor of Assam in late sixties saying: "The East Bengal Muslim was the main vote bank of the Congress party in Assam.
The national leadership in the country too is more interested in power politics than to have a lasting solution to the problem, which has perhaps left the people in disarray.

 The Hindu : National : Tripura Council dissolved
Till June 7, 2003, the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) ruled the tribal council but it became a minority on the day as a faction of leaders defected and formed the Nationalist Socialist Party of Tripura (NSPT).
The Tripura Governor, D.N. Sahaya, has dissolved the 30-member Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) as the ruling Nationalist Socialist Party of Tripura (NSPT) was reduced to a minority following a defection.
Of the 30 members, 28 are elected and the rest two are nominated by the Governor.

 In Memoriam, Justice V.M. Tarkunde (1909-2004)
A great admirer of Gandhi from his childhood days, V.M. Tarkunde became a convinced Marxist on return from England in 1932; in 1934 he joined Congress Socialist Party, which was a separate wing within the Indian National Congress.
While being a member of the Congress he was greatly influenced by M.N. Roy and finally, after the Tripura Congress Election in 1939, formally parted with Congress and became an ardent Royist and then a member of the Radical Democratic Party founded by Roy in 1940.
Justice V.M. Tarkunde became a member of the Congress Socialist Party and was a member of the All India Working Committee too.

Thirty senior Nationalist Socialist Party of Tripura (NSPT) leaders, headed by party president and former deputy Speaker Gaurishankar Reang, also joined the Congress today.
CPM spokesman Gautam Das claimed that the pre-poll situation was heavily in favour of the Left Front and the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) would not be able to rig the polls with the help of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), as it had allegedly done in 2000.
In a separate development, Ratimohan Jamatya, five-time MLA and member of the INPT’s advisory committee, joined the Congress last night with another central committee member of the party, Bichitramohan Jamatya.

Hrangkhal formed the Tripura National Volunteers (TNV), on Dec. 21, 1978 at Kasku, in the Amarpur subdivision, with 72 hard-core militants of the Tripura Sena, the armed wing of TUJS.
Groups allied to nationally or internationally: Nationally, the BdSF is aligned with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA).
The Kuki National Army (the striking arm of the KNF) is alleged to be backed by the Manipur bureaucracy and Congress Party leaders.

 Bhutan's resolve
In the vast forest region along the India-Bhutan border, there are about 50 training camps run by the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isaac-Muivah) or NSCN(I-M).
The MPLF is an association of three banned organisations active in Manipur - the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, the Revolutionary People's Front, and the United National Liberation Front.
It was on March 27 that National Security Adviser Brajesh Mishra secretly visited Bhutan and met King Jigme Singye Wangchuk at an undisclosed location in Paro in west Bhutan to express India's concern over the continued presence of Indian militants in the forests of south Bhutan, bordering north Bengal and Assam.

 Rediff On The NeT: Delegation urges Centre to rush more forces to Tripura
He said despite the cease fire agreement between the Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, the outfit was helping Tripura's two banned outfits -- the All Tripura Tiger Force and the National Liberation Front of Tripura -- in procuring sophisticated weapons.
On the contrary, the Union government had withdrawn the BSF and the Central Reserve Police Force from the state, Chatterjee said and added that the militants belonging to the north eastern region were using the 856 kilometres-long international border as a safe corridor.
The delegation said despite repeated requests to the prime minister and the Union home minister to provide additional forces the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre did not show its political and administrative will to help the state.
