The National Stock Exchange of India said yesterday that futures and options will drive growth in the market and forecasts derivatives trading to increase dramatically by 70 percent each year for the next few years.
The exchange, which Narain said controls about 99 percent of trading for derivatives in India, is promoting ways to boost trading of options among individuals, which has lagged the pace of growth in futures.
Roughly 77 million contracts for index and stock futures and options were traded on the exchange in the last, reflecting a 35 percent jump from a year earlier, according to the National Stock Exchange's Web site.
