Highway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Brazil, highways (or expressway/freeway) are named "rodovia", and Brazilian highways are divided in two types: regional highways (generally of less importance and entirely inside of one state) and national highways (of major importance to the country).
National highways connects multiples states altogether, are of major importance to the national economy and/or connects Brazil to another country.
Generally, a highway is a road which has multiple lanes of traffic in each direction, often with a physical division (median) between opposing traffic, and separate access ramps to and from the highway which are more widely separated than connections on a standard road and are often grade-separated.

State and County Trunk Highway System: Later Road Development: Wisconsin History Explorer of the Wisconsin Historical Society
In 1925 the CTH system was formally established by the legislature as a secondary highway system.
Uniform signs were used to mark the system across the state and each county board was responsible for marking, signing, and maintaining the roads in their county as well as the bridges on the highways.
The county was required to select the system of highways on which the improvements were to be made and elect a county highway commissioner to carry out the improvements.

Interstate Highway System: Later Road Development: Wisconsin History Explorer of the Wisconsin Historical Society
Nationally, with connection of the control points, the interstate highway system would serve 90 percent of the cities in the United States with populations over 50,000, 65 percent of the urban population, and 50 percent of the rural population.
It provided for the selection of a federal aid secondary system (the farm-to-market roads) and it called upon the states and the Public Roads Administration to designate a national system of interstate highways, not to exceed 40,000 miles connecting state capitals, principal metropolitan areas, cities, and industrial centers by direct routes.
Although the interstate highway system was not completed nationwide until the 1970s, it had been in the planning stages for nearly half a century.

Both systems were designed and developed by NHTSA's National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) to provide an overall measure of highway safety, to help identify traffic safety problems, to suggest solutions, and to help provide an objective basis on which to evaluate the effectiveness of motor vehicle safety standards and highway safety initiatives.

The largest of these is the Victoria Broadcasting System (VBS), based in a small town located in Victoria state.

During the 18th and 19th century, the semi-ancient structures were replaced with more more modern and democratic institutions, and the nation went through a new era of changes, mainly through rapid industrialization and the introduction of liberalism.

While trunk highways account for only 9 percent of the miles of roads in Minnesota, they are the “backbone” of the state's road system and carry nearly 60 percent of the state's traffic.
Our study was limited to an examination of the trunk highway system and did not include an assessment of highway funding adequacy for counties and cities, which would also benefit from an increase in highway user taxes.
Highway spending does not necessarily need to grow as fast as the growth in traffic, particularly when there is excess capacity in the highway system.

Minnesota Historic Sites: Split Rock Lighthouse Lake Superior International Highway
Renamed Trunk Highway 61 to eliminate duplication of numbers in an expanded highway system in 1934, the Lake Superior International Highway's development allowed tourism to develop and flourish along the North Shore.
The North Shore road was originally called Trunk Highway No. 1 and was an important part of Minnesota's highway system when it opened in the mid-1920s.
Babcock contended that the designation was pointless because Trunk Highway No. 1 had been "designated a National Highway and will be so marked." Besides, it was already well known as an important state highway.
