The NTS owns and manages over 120 properties and 760 square kilometres of land: (A large building formerly occupied by a ruler and fortified against attack) castles, ancient small dwellings, historic sites, (A plot of ground where plants are cultivated) gardens and remote rural areas.
The Trust attempts to show a property not as museum, but as the castle actually was at one time.

Although the National Trust is famous for owning large estates and historic houses, the majority of the land it owns is countryside and open space, open free of charge to the public at all times and preserved in perpetuity.
National Trust Education also has its own separate site at http://www.nt-education.org which is a delight to use: far better looking than the main pages, and full of all sorts of useful stuff - including countryside bits.
