CPL African Americans and National Party Convention History: A Chronology
However, for the two conventions prior to 1868 ( 1860 and 1864) held in Chicago, and indeed, for many of the national conventions held afterwards, one had to rely on the parties' platforms for any mention of African Americans.
After serving as a delegate to the state constitutional convention in 1868 and to the national Republican convention in 1868, Pinchback was elected to the state senate and as Lieutenant Governor.
In Chicago, the Republican National Committee defeated the "lily whitism" of Southern delegates to the national convention, and also required that African Americans be admitted to state and district conventions.

Chp 10: Kindling a New National Grand Council Fire, Native American liberty and the U.S. Constitution, "Exemplar Of Liberty"
In the midst of the Constitutional Convention in recalling such American Indian stories, Franklin was playing the role of "philosopher as savage." Certainly, Franklin and Rush's association with the Constitutional Sons of Saint Tammany and their use of American Indian imagery was on their minds in the summer of 1787.
Even this would not satisfy; the fifty families would soon dissolve their union, and nothing would ever content them short of the complete individual independence of the Mohawks; for it may be depended on, that individual independence is what every unthinking human heart aims at, nearly or remotely.
For instance, William Livingston, delegate to the Constitutional Convention from New Jersey, had lived for a year among the Mohawks at the age of fourteen and was quite familiar with the ideas of the Iroquois.

The 66th UE National Convention: About
The UE National Convention is our union's highest decision-making body — and UE's most educational and inspirational event of the year.
In five days of work, elected rank-and-file delegates debate and adopt the union's policy for the coming year; elect the union's national officers; participate in workshops; and generally tend to the work involved in running a rank-and-file union.
Sometimes, people express surprise that the UE convention is held annually, instead of every four or five years as is typical of many unions.
