Union Day (Romania) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The National Day of Romania or Union Day (Ziua Unirii) occurring on December 1, is the national holiday of Romania.
The first holiday of Romania was set to be on May 10, which had a double meaning; it was the day on which the Romanian monarchy was instituted (in 1866), and it was the day on which the Declaration of Independence was signed (in 1877).
The communist regime changed the date of the national holiday to August 23 to mark the 1944 overthrow of the fascist government.

Pro TV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It re-launched under the brand name Pro TV on December 1, 1995 (Romania's National day), this time with nationwide coverage.
Their programme was a mix of entertainment (mostly popular, blockbuster movies) with sharp, good-quality news.
From the beginning, Pro TV sported a dynamic image, inspired by American television channels, in stark contrast with a dull and unresourceful public TV - TVR - at that moment the only TV network with national coverage.

 Romania 2004
The declaration of Transylvania’s union with Romania made by the Romanian assembly in Gyulafehérvár (Alba Iulia) on 1 December 1918 (currently Romania’s national holiday), is considered by Romanian historians as the legal basis of this border change.
It protects the interests of the various territorial, political, and social organizations of the Hungarians in Romania and represents in public their interests at the national and in part at the local government level, coordinating and encouraging the various forms of social self-government.
After 1918, the national minority policy of the successive Romanian governments was aimed at depriving the Hungarians of Transylvania of their financial resources and network of institutions or, if this was not possible, at curtailing the Hungarian institutions’ opportunities for self-administration.
