Ethnic groups share a common origin, and exhibit a continuity in time, that is, a history and a future as a people.
According to this view the state ought not to acknowledge ethnic, national or racial identity and should instead enforce political and legal equality of all individuals.

Whether you agree in whole, or in part, with any of the above statements, or their implication for your future research, the possible reduction in the number of ethnic/cultural variables (especially the ethnic origin question) for which data traditionally have been collected by the national census, is something that we must try to prevent.
Those of use who work with the ethnic or cultural origin data collected by the Census are well aware of the difficulties that Statistics Canada, and its predecessors have had over the years in obtaining valid, reliable and consistent data on these complex and "ambiguous" population characteristics.
Of course this has further confused the original and historical intent of the question and blurred the distinction between one's "ethnic or cultural origin" and the respondent's current ethnic or cultural "identity".

The Albanian League, formed on the periphery of the Albanian ethnic space, in Prizren in 1878, called for a resolution of the national question within the frameworks of the Ottoman empire: it was conservative Muslim layers that prevailed in the League's leadership and military forces.
The theory about the Albanians' alleged Illyrian origin was launched from the cabinets of Viennese and German scientists where, until then, it only had the form of a narrow scientific debate, and it was skillfully propagated in a simplified form.
The right to self-determination, which the ethnic Albanians refer to when rejecting even the very thought of remaining within Serbia, is not envisaged anywhere in the world for national minorities, no matter how large their percentage may be compared to the country's overall population.

A Romanian army, under the personal command of Prince Carol I, crossed the Danube and participated in the siege of Pleven; the result was the surrender of the Ottoman army led by Osman Pasha (December 10, 1877).
Owing to their position, the Romanians south of the Danube were the first to be mentioned in historical sources (the 10th century), under the name of vlahi or blahi (Wallachians); this name shows they were speakers of a Romance language and that the non-Roman peoples around them recognised this fact.

1979 Perth State of Origin Carnival
In 1979, precisely 100 years after the first intercolonial football match was held, a state of origin carnival, ostensibly run by the National Football League, but with its costs being underwritten by the Western Australian National Football League, was conducted in Perth.
The inception of state of origin football in 1977 brought renewed interest in interstate competition, for the simple reason that Victorian pre-eminence was no longer guaranteed.
Coming into this carnival, the state of origin loss to Western Australia 2 seasons previously had been the Big V's only interstate reversal in its last 25 outings, meaning that Victoria was favoured by most pundits to win the championship.

 CROATS & SERBS: CHAPTER ONE
Meanwhile the name "Serb" is a specific national name and wherever Serbs are mentioned they must be of the same national origin as the Serbs in the Caucasus or in Asia Minor.
Therefore the oldest mention that we have the Serbs dates from the middle of the II century, more precisely from the last quarter of the I century A.D. From these two instances it is clear that the Serbs mentioned therein were not Slavs.
(45) The Serbs of Thessaly were so few in number that they did not even have their own bishopric before 869, (46) and it is wholly probable that in 688 they were transferred in such numbers to Asia Minor that a VII century bishopric in Bithynia would have taken its name from them.

THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE & NAZISM IN THE USA
As the nation's leading authority on the pledge of allegiance and on the "Roman Salute," RexCurry.net made the historic discovery that the salute of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazis) originated from the military salute in the USA, and from the original flag pledge (as written by a socialist), and not from ancient Rome.
The pledge of allegiance was the origin of the salute of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazi Party) because Francis Bellamy was a self-proclaimed national socialist who promoted “military socialism” (a Bellamy term).
Francis Bellamy was a national socialist in the U.S. and created the pledge of allegiance to the flag using a straight-armed salute, the so-called "Roman" salute, in 1892.
