Talk:Trade union - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
While the story of Tolpuddle has enriched the history of trade unionism, we should be careful not to subsume essential facts: that the organisation clearly labeled itself as a friendly society; and that friendly societies and unions share common attributes as benefit societies.
I was under the impression that "trade union" was the analogous term for much of the rest of the world.
Here in the states, we use "labor union" to refer generically to unions regardless of their sector or organizing method (industrial vs. craft/trade).

 v92-1-47
As the trade union movement or the federation of unions grows and develops and as problems they are confronting become complex and multinational in nature, consciously they feel the need for international linkages, cooperation and other organizations for support.
The international trade union movement has been, and continues to be, a vital tool of governments in the shaping of the political destinies of foreign political parties and states and is an important part of most nations’ foreign policy system."
These changes will necessitate trade unions to retrace the history of the movement, specifically in regard to the question of democracy, both in the workplace and within the union, the forms of organizing and the definition of the concrete bases and forms of solidarity.

 Skorea
In November 1994, the KCTU decided to build a national trade union center and formed a preparatory committee to coordinate the launching of an organization that would rival the size and organizational structure of the FKTU.
The Trade Union Law provisions on the formation of unions were designed to prevent the establishment of a rival organization to the government-controlled unions or national trade union confederation.
Thus, the Trade Union Law prohibits the formation of a union or union federation whose potential "membership is the same as an already existing trade union."23 This provision effectively outlaws any alternative to the company-sponsored unions or the union federations created during the military dictatorship.
