Native mode - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term native mode is used in computing in two related senses.
to describe something running on a computer natively or in native mode meaning that it is running without any external support as contrasted to running in emulation.
Native operating system, native instruction set, etc., in application to a computer processor means that the corresponding item was implemented specifically for the given model of the computer or microprocessor, as opposed to emulation or compatibility mode.

Z380   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The Z380 in Native/Word mode behaves exactly like the Z80, but has access to the entire 4 Gbytes of memory for data and 4G locations of I/O space because the upper 16 bits of all CPU registers (except the PC) are still accessable to the software using new Z380 instructions.
In Native mode all of the address manipulations operate on 16-bit quantities whereas in Extended mode all of the address manipulations operate on 32-bit quantities.
Mode 3 is similar to Mode 2 (as in the Z180 or Z80) except that a 16-bit interrupt vector is expected from the peripherals.

BIOS Settings for Native-Mode-Capable ATA Controllers   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Because compatible mode requires dedicated resources, the ATA controller for the boot device (which is usually integrated in chipsets on the motherboard) is the only controller on a system that is likely to operate in compatible mode.
A controller that operates in native mode acts as a true PCI device that does not require dedicated legacy resources and can be configured anywhere in the system.
Placing the device in native mode when it is detected and before the ATAPI component is loaded avoids problems related to dealing with active transactions and edge-triggered versus level-triggered interrupts.

Novell Documentation: NetWare 6.5 - Cluster-Enabling Native File Access for UNIX
Cluster-enabling Native File Access for UNIX lets you have the advantage of using NFAU services even when the server on which it is installed fails.
In a cluster-enabled Native File Access for UNIX, if the node or server where the services are running fails, then the shared volume along with configuration files mounts along with the virtual IP address on the designated node in the cluster.
When a server fails, Native File Access for UNIX starts on another specified node in the cluster, and the cluster volumes that were mounted on the failed server fail over to that node.

CTX485555 - Using Mixed Mode for Interoperability with MetaFrame 1.8
The operating mode is set during the installation of the first server in a new farm, and can be changed at any time by modifying the farm properties using the Citrix Management Console.
In addition, mixed mode allows MetaFrame XP connection licenses to be pooled with MetaFrame 1.8 servers when those servers reside on the same subnets as MetaFrame XP servers in a mixed mode XP farm.
This is different from native mode license pooling in which MetaFrame XP connection licenses are dynamically pooled across all subnets that contain servers from the same farm.

Native Mode CAD Translation frequently asked questions
Feature-Based Native file conversion is one in which all of the original geometry and geometric features of the model in a source CAD system file are re-created in a specified target software application.
What you have is a native file with an imported object in it, often referred to as a "dumb solid." We at TTI define our file conversions by levels.
With a Native target file to work from instead of an imported neutral file, you will be able to work more efficiently and accurately.

Native Mode procedures use the full Native Mode calling conventions, and are completely callable from any Native Mode language, including Pascal/iX, SPLash!, COBOL, FORTRAN, and C. Native Mode procedures deal solely with 32-bit and 64-bit addressing.
Mode procedures use 16-bit "DB" relative addresses, but these addresses are automatically converted to 32-bit and 64-bit addresses when calling Native Mode procedures (e.g., FREAD).
Mode procedures can also declare pointers and arrays which will use 32-bit and 64-bit addresses, thereby allowing access beyond the bounds of the emulated 64KB stack.

Serial ATA in the Microsoft Operating System Environment
Not all parallel ATA controllers are supported natively in a Windows distribution so there will be some Serial ATA Emulating Parallel ATA mode controllers that must have their manufacturer's drivers to work properly.
Native Serial ATA mode controllers can be made to work with all existing versions of Windows as long as the controllers come with the appropriate drivers.
Driver support for Emulating Parallel ATA mode and Native Serial ATA mode controllers is separate and distinct as these modes appear as two different and unique ATA interconnects.

Mixed mode vs. native mode: What's the difference?
Switching to native mode is a non-reversible operation and should not be performed until all Exchange 5.5 servers have been removed from the organization and there is no chance of you ever installing another legacy Exchange Server.
One thing to keep in mind, however, is that Exchange's mixed mode and native mode are in no way related to the Windows level mixed mode or native mode.
It is possible to run Windows in mixed mode, but run Exchange in native mode, or visa versa.

NT Drivers - Usenet Archives - Adding Native APIs
Windows NT provides a largely undocumented set of base system services, called the Native API which is somewhat similar to the interrupt based system call interface present in the UNIX operating systems.
However the Native API, accessible both in user-mode and kernel-mode, in every operating environment subsystem is really implemented via an INT 2EH system trap, called the Native Call Interface (NCI).
As I was learning about the Windows NT Native API and the NCI sometime back, I was always driven by the curiosity as to whether or not the Native API or rather the NCI is extensible.
