Rather atypically for an album, Natural History has a stated mission: "To change people's lives at three decibels," according to I Am Kloot frontman John Bramwell--a one-time teenage busker on the streets of Paris, who returned home to British shores, half-dead from starvation, with the dream of forming the perfect band.
Sure the acoustic guitars are there, but this album pushes the boundries and breaks the mould of how music should be, and surprisingly in doing so, it somehow still manages to retain its catchy pop feel.
Natural History has to be one of THE albums to have in your collection whether a fan of this genre of music or not.

Max and Julian Tepper are brothers, and The Natural History, their band with drummer Derek Vockins, is, in a word, awesome.
But you can take your pick of adulatory adjectives to describe Beat Beat Heartbeat, The Natural History's debut album, which capitalizes on the strengths of the band's acclaimed self-titled EP -- the tight, powerful arrangements, the stubbornly catchy hooks, the walking-wounded lyrics -- and makes all of it work on another level.

While Natural History shows that not every Talk Talk song was worthy of heavy rotation in the airplay, it does show that the band's one-hit wonder status is probably undeserved.
There are a couple of live tracks, nice ones to be sure, but Talk Talk was at the height of its powers in the studio, not on stage, and butting live cuts up against studio tracks only heightens that contrast.
If Natural History tells us anything, it is that we may have underestimated Talk Talk when the radio industry in general seemed to shrug them off as one-hit wonders.

Easily one of the most accomplished bands of the new acoustic movement, I Am Kloot has created one of the better albums in the genre with Natural History.
As endearingly quirky as some of the songs might be, there's an ample supply of beautiful ballads on hand to vary the mood.
Smart, catchy, at times ramshackle, and at other times desperately atmospheric and exotic, Natural History is a wonderful debut album.
