Protecting Natural Heritage: Step 3 - Determine the Natural Significance   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
The first step in determining the natural heritage significance of your place is to consider all of its natural heritage values from existence value, that is the value they have in their own right, irrespective of whether people value them, to socially-based values.
Natural places, especially large ones, are likely to have a range of values which are important to consider when determining the significance of your place.
Although the natural significance of most places will be related to their natural integrity, there are many ecosystems which have been so affected by land clearing and development that there are no longer many examples of high natural integrity remaining.
