Hell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hell appears in several mythologies and religions in different guises, and is commonly inhabited by demons and the souls of dead people.
The nature of Hell as a place of punishment, as portrayed by Dante, is not explored here; instead, Hell is the abode of the demons, and the passive prison from which they plot their revenge upon Heaven through the corruption of the human race.
Hell is treated in the Christian conception, replete with Satanic symbols and corporeal demons, as a parallel universe of crimson skies, fl mountains and oceans of fire.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Hell
The existence of hell is, of course, denied by all those who deny the existence of God or the immortality of the soul.
We must not consider the eternal punishment of hell as a series of separate of distinct terms of punishment, as if God were forever again and again pronouncing a new sentence and inflicting new penalties, and as if He could never satisfy His desire of vengeance.
Hell is, especially in the eyes of God, one and indivisible in its entirety; it is but one sentence and one penalty.

 The Nature of Hell
Hell is described in the Scriptures as a place of darkness and sadness (Matthew 22:13), a place of fire (Matthew 5:22), a place of torment (Revelation 14:10), a place of destruction (Matthew 7:13), and a place of disgrace and everlasting contempt (Daniel 12:2).
I believe the Bible teaches the unrighteous will be resurrected, judged, punished in Hell for a period of time proportional to their sins, and then suffer destruction (the death of body and soul).
Some traditionalists believe that the torments of Hell must be eternal, since humankind was made in the image of God and that image cannot be "uncreated." Thus they believe that immortality was bestowed on Mankind when God created male and female in His image.

Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in hell to stay the same, the ratio of the mass of souls and volume needs to stay constant.
So, if hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter hell, then the temperature and pressure in hell will increase until all hell breaks loose.
Of course, if hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until hell freezes over.

 Hell: Eternal Torment or Annihilation
Hell is the place of final punishment, which results in the total destruction of the whole being, soul and body.
The visions cited to support the view of everlasting punishment in hell are: (1) the vision of God’s Wrath in Revelation 14:9-11, and (2) the vision of the lake of fire and of the second death in Revelation 20:10, 14-15.
The fundamental question is whether the lake of fire represents an ever-burning hell where the wicked are supposed to be tormented for all eternity or whether it symbolizes the permanent destruction of sin and sinners.

In the discussion on hell imagery, Stott (and Wenham) cleverly seeks to drive a wedge between the instruments of punishment (eternal, the worm not dying, the flame not quenched, etc.) and the effect on the individual (temporary, the soul becoming unconscious and extinct at some point).
I do not think that it is of primary importance to hold the traditionalist perspective on hell, though it is vital to accept that there will be some kind of devastating post mortem punishment for all those who die in their sins without Christ.

The views of the cults regarding Hell deny the clear teaching of Scripture that the unrighteous will be sent to a place of suffering called Hell.

Thus, hell is both a place, a part of the world of spirits where suffering and sorrow occur, and a state of mind associated with remorseful realization of one´s own sins (Mosiah 2:38; Alma 36:12–16).
References to an everlasting hell for these spirits are interpreted in light of the Doctrine and Covenants, which defines Endless and Eternal as referring not to the length of punishment, but rather referring to God´s punishment because he is "endless" and "eternal" (19:4–13).

Hell, the word, as used in English Bibles translates from the Hebrew Sheol and the Greek Gehenna.
It was the latter, which came to denote a place of punishment for the wicked after death divinely ordained, that decisively met the Christian meaning of hell.
Tradition holds the unrepentant after death goes to hell, while the redeemed goes either to purgatory or directly to heaven.

If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is extinct...
Moreover, if we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially and the Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the pressure would increase, but in this case the volume would decrease....
