It is published biannually for the Nautical Archaeology Society by Blackwell Publishing Ltd. The Society was founded in 1981 to further research in all aspects of nautical archaeology and to ensure the publication of results.
The Society aims to advance education in nautical archaeology at all levels; to improve techniques in excavating, conservation and reporting; and to encourage participation by members of the public at all stages.
The Society produces a newsletter 'Nautical Archaeology' and organises, both on it's own behalf and in association with other bodies, conferences, symposia, lectures, field projects, expeditions and training.
