The separate existence of the children of the Goddess was emphasised and hence, the ekchala form was replaced by a newer style where there were five separate idols within the same pandal.
The experimentation with different forms of the Goddess has resulted in evolution of forms like the oriental form of the image, the neo-classical model, the Shiv-Durga models and the Navadurga, where nine different forms of the goddess are shown in nine different idols within the same pandal.
Their form of the Goddess is therefore alive, in the real sense of the word, where ladies from this group put on the Godly apparel and sit inside the pandals depicting the Durga and her children.

The 12th-century aniconic representations of the Navadurga gradually expanded in the later period (15th century) to include appearances in human bodily form for the sake of protecting country, king and citizenry, maintaining peace and prosperity, and safeguarding the group's own sacred space and boundaries from intruders and other evils.
The cult of the Navadurga Gana is kept alive by the various ritualistic performances associated with it.
It is one clear sign that the local space, its people and their rituals from birth to death still fall under the group's powerful sway.
