As the Naval Infantry expanded through the 1970’s and 1980’s, the regiments were expanded into brigades (an indication of their elite status as brigades were not a common formation in the Soviet Armed Forces) and the Pacific units were formed into a division.
Naval Infantry are of a higher calibre than normal motor rifle troops, and are given more rigerous training and special courses to familiarise them with ship types, naval terminology and signals, parachuting and navigation as well as being taught to use all the weapons at the company’s disposal.
Naval Infantry airborne assault units were also created to enhance the shock effect of an amphibious landing, and prevent the Naval Infantry from having to call upon the VDV (Vosdushno desantnaya voyska - air assault force) for help and becoming part of the planning process which would complicate command and control.

The one on the left, which I believe was specific to the Soviet Naval Infantry Beret, was eventually replaced by the variant on the right.
The left side badge is for EM's in the naval infantry; they did not wear the standard star/wreath as other members of the soviet armed forces did.
Similar to Naval Infantry but this design was only worn as a badge on the fl uniform as well as cammo jackets used by Naval Infantry during the 1970s and 1980s.

For example, the term "Naval Infantry General" which implies duties of naval land forces generals, is the general vernacular term used to describe generals in the soviet navy by most collectors.
This does not include Naval Air Force generals, or generals of naval aviation, nor Naval Border Guard Generals (again, Frontier Troops is more correct, if we were being graded by a professor, while the accepted vernacular is Border Guard).
You would not call general of the army of infantry or marshal of soviet union of rifles.
