The Irish Naval Service flags website at http://www.military.ie/naval/naval_flags.htm shows the harp on the Jack with its strings upright (in the playing position) and gives the colour of those strings as "silver", rather than with yellow strings at an angle as we show here.
The senior officer of the Irish Naval Service holds the rank of commodore and flies a swallowtail green pennant with a single yellow star centered between the point of the fork and the hoist.
The Naval Service colour was presented to the Naval Service on 12 July 1996 by her Excellency, President Mary Robinson.

The Irish Naval Service (Irish "Serbhís Cabhlaigh na hÉireann") is the navy of the Republic of Ireland and is one of the three standing branches of the Irish Defence Forces (Óglaigh na hÉireann).
Naval service vessels are all named with traditional Irish female names, taken from history and Celtic mythology.
The subsequent strain put on the Naval Service prompted funding from the European Community to build and purchase seven ships, all of which are in service today, apart from LÉ Setanta, which was sold in 1980.

In Sept 1946 the Marine Service became a component of the Defence Forces.
With the disposal in 1952 of the last craft which had served during the war, these three corvettes became the backbone of the Naval Service during the 1950's and 60's.
The first Naval Service Cadet intake were trained at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, UK in 1947.

 Naval Service of Jimmy Carter
James Earle (Jimmy) Carter, Jr., who in 1976 became the fifth consecutive President with prior Navy service, was born in Plains, Georgia on 1 October 1924, to Lillian Gordy and James Earle Carter.
From 1 March to 8 October, Carter was preparing to become the engineering officer for the nuclear power plant to be placed in USS Seawolf (SSN 575), one of the first submarines to operate on atomic power.
Carter was honorably discharged on 9 October 1953 at Headquarters, Third Naval District in New York City.

 Naval Training Center Orlando History
Commissioned on July 1,1968, the Naval Training Center, Orlando, was established to enhance the manpower training capabilities of the United States Navy.
A decision was made in the nation's capital to develop a third Naval Training Center, and on December 6, 1966, the Honorable Robert H. Baldwin, then Under Secretary of the Navy, announced that the city of Orlando had been chosen as the site of the Navy's newest and most modern training facility.
Additionally, the Naval Training Center is host command for the Naval Training Device Center, which is responsible for the research, development, production,' maintenance, and modification of air, sea, subsurface, land, and space trainers applicable to all types of military situations.

On November 26th 1917, a letter was sent from the First Lord of the Admiralty to King George V requesting approval of a proposal to form a Service called the ‘The Women’s Royal Naval Service’.
For although the W.R.N.S. was a far older service, it was an auxiliary to the Navy, not an integral part of it as in Canada.
The women were referred to as Wrens, but with the unification of the armed services in the late sixties the names of the women’s groups in the services was dropped.

As the undergraduate college of the Naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy.

 NAVAL ORDER OF THE UNITED STATES
The Naval Order through his efforts and guidance, and with the concurrent encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt, became the prime mover in organizing the Navy League of the United States, which was chartered in New York in 1902.
Naval records and artifacts can be found today in many repositories including the National Archives, Federal Records Center, Library of Congress, and the Naval Historical Center, all in Washington, DC in the service academies and graduate schools and in many state historical and maritime museum collections.
The Naval Order has elected to place its own records, including all original copes of Applications for Membership with their detailed narrative of eligibility, in the custody of the US Naval Institute at Annapolis, Maryland.

By these means about seventeen hundred men were enrolled for service with the Royal Navy; and the number would probably have been larger had not the east coast patrols, later in the war, become the primary naval need as far as manning was concerned.
The divisional organization, however, continued to be used for obtaining naval recruits generally until the end of the war, when the district offices were closed.

There was little formal naval training and the force was disbanded in 1924, having been only 10 months in existence, with the ships either being sold or scrapped and personnel retuned to their former duties.
Thus was born the modern day Irish Naval Service, from numbers which had slipped from 300 all ranks to 160, increased rapidly on the ratings side, to 400.

 John F. Kennedy's Naval Service
A former naval officer, Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on 29 May 1917 to Rose and Joseph P. Kennedy.
In October 1941, Kennedy was appointed an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve and joined the staff of the Office of Naval Intelligence.

 Royal Naval Patrol Service
The Royal Naval Patrol Service or Harry Tate's Navy, as it was more popularly known, was a very special service indeed with its own rules and regulations and the unique distinction of having its own exclusive Silver Badge, worn by sea-going officers and ratings alike.
Its headquarters were at Sparrow`s Nest, the municipal pleasure ground at Lowestoft, and its fighting fleet consisted of hundreds of requisitioned trawlers, whalers, drifters, paddle steamers, yachts, tugs and the like 'Minor War Vessels' as the Admiralty called them.
It cannot be complete because no one man can ever know the whole story of Harry Tate`s Navy but it may at least convey some of the atmosphere of those daring days when men came to Lowestoft from all over the world to join Harry Tate`s Navy.
