We are a satellite office of the United States Naval War College, College of Distance Education (CDE) located on campus at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California.
The NWC program is designed to educate professional naval officers in areas that will enhance their performance in command and in decision making positions on major staffs.
NWC Command and Staff program graduates are eligible for “joint coded” billets and those officers can negotiate class dates for the Joint Forces Staff College (JPME phase II) with their detailers.

In August of that year, the Naval Academy leased the Atlantic House Hotel, which was at the corner of Bellevue Avenue and Pelham Street, just up the street by Touro Park.
In 1882 the Newport Poor House and Farm on the 92-acre Coasters Harbor Island was donated to the Navy by the City of Newport and the State of Rhode Island.
World Wars I and II resulted in a huge influx of military and civilian employees in Rhode Island, with a peak of more than 162,000 personnel in 1944.

War gaming has been an integral part of the Naval War College since 1887, when LT William McCarty Little was invited to join the faculty to teach war gaming techniques and conduct war games in support of teaching objectives at the college.
At the Naval War College, various gaming techniques are used to support a gaming schedule of approximately 50 games a year.
War games are used to study a wide range of issues from space to anti-submarine warfare, from unconventional warfare to global war, from advanced technology to political-military relationships.

The Naval War College acquired the papers of Rear Admiral Richard W. Bates (1892-1974) in 1974.
Bates was a participant in and scholar of World War II and a major figure at the Naval War College.

In order for a NWC student to be granted the transfer credits, the student must meet UMUC’s criteria for transfer as set forth in the applicable catalog at the time the student requests acceptance of the transferred credits.
NWC students wishing to pursue this option should confer with a UMUC graduate advisor at the earliest opportunity since the 7 year rule also includes these courses.
NWC active duty military are eligible for Maryland in-state graduate tuition at the prevailing rates for the MSM.

Despite the changes in war that have been demonstrated now in three wars, the orthodoxy, including evidently that of the Bush administration and of Gen. Tommy Franks' Central Command, is that magnificent armies with stunning maneuvers won the Gulf War.
To the naval officers in this room, to their international counterparts, even to the good citizens of the Newport area, I say: I hope you are not so young and gung-ho and wet behind the ears that you accept this characterization.

 Naval War College Honors Pentagon Heroes with "Patriots Memorial"   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
In a ceremony on the War College's grounds, the Patriots Memorial was dedicated to the 10 War College students and alumni who perished in the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001.
Rempt spoke of the ten War College students and alumni whom the memorial was being dedicated to and the resolve of the United States.
The memorial, which is located between Conolly and McCarty-Little Halls on the grounds of the Naval War College, has been made possible through private donations to a memorial fund sponsored by the Naval War College Foundation.

 Resources for Naval History at and near the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island
Naval War College Museum is located in Founders Hall, a national historic landmark that was originally built as the Newport County Poor House and housed the Naval War College at its founding in 1884.
The Museum is a division of the Maritime History Department, Center for Naval Warfare Studies, and serves educational purposes for both students attending the Naval War College and for the general public The Museum's educational objectives are complemented by the historical research, writing, and publication of its research branch.

The Y2K International Consequence Management project is the brainchild of Vice Admiral Arthur Cebrowski, who heads the war college and saw the Year 2000 computer glitch as a natural for the kind of future gazing his organization does best.

 NMORA 1093 Trains at Naval War College
A portion of the primary training was hosted by the Naval Training Meteorological and Oceanography Detachment (NTMOD) Newport, located in the newly- constructed McCarty Little Hall at the Naval War College and a detachment from Meteorology and Oceanography Command Atlantic (METOC) Norfolk.
This proved to be a good opportunity for junior personnel to strengthen their briefing skills, and the timely passage of Hurricane Fabian during the drill weekend provided a practical element to the briefing preparation and presentations.

To be successful, Naval Forces must be able to deal with the multitude of threats, including the potential mine threats in each phase of an operation.
