Naval architecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Naval architecture is the science of design of water borne transport, ships, boats, barges and other vessels for marine and freshwater use, in military and civilian roles.
Naval Architecture bases its science on the elements it must draw from several vital criteria for a vessel to be useful.
Naval architecture is practised by skilled and qualified Naval Architects.

Architecture (disambiguation) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In every usage, an architecture may be seen as a subjective mapping from a human perspective (that of the 'user' in the case of abstract or physical artifacts) to the elements or components of some kind of structure or system, which preserves the relationships among the elements/components.
Architectural history studies the evolution and history of (built) architectures across the world through a consideration of various influences- artistic, cultural, political, economic, and technological.
Architecture (other), a representation of an arbitrary abstract, natural, or man-made structure of two or more interacting parts (e.g., architecture of mathematics, architecture of language, cytoarchitecture, cellular architecture, naval architecture, skelletal architecture, battlefield architecture).

Naval Architecture is one of the two broad technological areas at the heart of M. Rosenblatt and Son an AMSEC LLC Group's business and expertise, the other being Marine Engineering.
It entails the art, engineering, and science required to establish the aesthetic and functional characteristics and features of every vessel, craft, or ship, whether naval or commercial.
The characteristics of designs capable of fulfilling any required objective can be based on previous designs of similar vessels, or they can be based on parametric relationships representing the naval architectural technological disciplines that have proven to be valid.

When a junior naval engineer enters an organization, there will normally be an indoctrination peri-od and assignment to a special field of interest such as propulsion engines.
This field of naval engineering spans the entire spectrum of engineering and scientific disciplines, and applies to issues such as advanced hull forms, behavior of ships at sea, and development of new materials and technical processes.

On the other hand, some traditionalist might prefer that if a redefinition of terms is to occur, that naval architecture be the master marine discipline, and include machinery systems design as well as ship hull design.
The word architecture is, however, now no longer properly reflective of the diversity of design and engineering related processes practiced most generally in the marine field, and it will become even less so in the future.
In short, the designation "naval architecture" is gradually developing a ring of antiquation, conveying a quaint, perhaps romatic, and certainly exclusive, but "low-tech" image in the eyes of the general public, and the general engineering community as well.
