  Guadalcanal Naval Battles
The island of Tulagi had been occupied by the Japanese during the Battle of the Coral Sea in May, 1942.
For the next four months, the waters around Guadalcanal would be the unlikely scene of the most bitter, protracted naval struggle of the Pacific War.
Unfortunately, it wasn't just a battle, it was a campaign; a campaign they could not hope to win, as the material superiority of their adversary, and the willingness of the Americans to accept stunning naval losses to hold the island gradually eroded the vital cruiser and destroyer strengths of the Japanese Navy.

 Pacific Naval Battles
Pacific Naval Battles in World War II The Pacific War was the largest naval conflict in history.
Every conceivable type of naval activity was represented: carrier aviation battles, surface engagements, bitterly fought night-fights, the largest amphibious landings of the entire war, and the stealthy, brutal battles waged by and against submarines.
I have compiled information on a number of the more important (and, I think, interesting) battles of the war, including a synopsis, tabular displays of the forces involved, and in some cases ship movement track charts.

First World War.com - Battles - The First and Second Naval Bombardment of the Dardanelles, 1915
For one thing, naval artillery could not be expected to achieve the necessary steep trajectory required to knock out the forts.
Even should the naval bombardment prove successful the absence of ground troops would prevent the British from gaining command of the shorelines - and in the absence of supplies from the shore the naval fleet would necessarily have to return home to refuel and restock.
Meanwhile the French government, in the form of incoming naval minister Jean Augagneur, was reluctant to cede the possibility of a purely British naval success in the Mediterranean.

Naval battles of the American Civil War Information
Naval battles of the American Civil War were a common occurrence just as they are with many wars.
The naval engagements of the American Civil War though were different in the sense that they dramatically altered the foundations of naval warfare.
Although not invented as a result of the war, the use of ironclads, submarines warfare, and the introduction of newer and more powerful naval artillery ushered in a new era of war at sea.

After the release of Great Naval Battles in the North Atlantic, four successors followed under the same Great Naval Battles label, but those games could only be called a huge disappointment after the original GNBNA.
This makes it possible that more than one battle can occur at the same time, with various task forces operating simultaneously, it is possible that two or more engage enemy formations at the same time.
In the actual battle, several stations can be selected on the individual ships - navigation, primary guns, secondary guns, torpedoes, and damage control to name the most important.

After the occupation of the Thermopylae by the Persians and the end of the naval battle of Artemisius without a decisive result for the Greek fleet, the only line of defence for the Greeks was the Corinth Canal.
The battle took place close to the shores of Salamina in the strait, which meant the front line of the Persian ships was equal in number to the Greek ships.

DNK Amazon Store :: The Battle Of Leyte Gulf: The Last Fleet Action (Twentieth-Century Battles)
It was unusual as a naval battle in that it was fought over five days; historically, naval battles have seldom spread themselves over more than one or two days.
This battle involved a series of related actions subsequently grouped together under the name of just one of these engagements, but in fact none of the actions were fought inside Leyte Gulf.
In fact the battle was four separate actions, none of which were fought in the Gulf itself, and the result was the destruction of Japanese naval power in the Pacific.

Ok I would be Ok with giving the player the option to install the naval element of the game, but it appears that your perception of naval warfare of this time is slanted and you would frankly be missing out if you didnt try it out.
Naval battles would be interesting in this game and RTW because of the sheer variety of ways to fight at sea.
With naval units as they are the battles would be rather bland with the battle basically being decided upon who has the most, or most advanced, ships and crew.

Ahoy - Mac's Web Log - Naval Battles in the Solomon Islands over August/November 1942 turn the tide of the Pacific War
Some Naval historians mark the Battle of Midway as the turning point in the Pacific War, but it is my view that the Naval Battles for the Solomon Islands over the short period of August/November 1942 deserve that honour.
This work seeks to cover these seven fiercely fought sea battles between ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the United States, which determined whether US Marines and Army personnel could hold Guadalcanal, the absolute key to eventual victory in the Pacific War.
I was a participant in the first of them, being the Officer of the Watch on the bridge of HMAS Canberra at the commencement of the Battle of Savo Island on the 9th.

The Battle of the Nile, fought on 1st August 1798, was Nelsons first great victory and dealt a fatal blow to Napoleon Bonapartes ambitions in the Middle East.
But the battle itself was only the decisive event in a campaign of many months, upon the outcome of which depended the domination of the Mediterranean and the whole strategic situation in Europe.
It also provides a fascinating and detailed insight into the nature and conditions of naval war in the Age of Sail, from the strain felt by fleet commanders, isolated from higher authority and starved of information of the enemy, to the daily lives of the sailors and the tactics used in battle.
