Metro Manila is the political, economic, social, and cultural center of the country, and it is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world.
Metro Manila is the smallest of the country's regions, but the most populous and the most densely populated, having a population of 9,932,560 (2000 census) in an area only 636 square kilometers large.
Metro Manila is also sandwiched by the Manila Bay to the west and the Laguna de Bay to the southeast with the Pasig River running between them, bisecting the region.

Police said a certain Dennis Salonga of Daan Hari, Navotas, and four other still unidentified companions decided to conduct a hold-up when they ran out of liquor in their drinking spree.
Initial investigation of Navotas police said jeepney driver Nelson Abucad of Tabing-dagat, Navotas, was able to slip out after the hold-up men had robbed the passengers of their valuables and reported the incident to the barangay tanods (village sentries) of San Jose, Navotas.

The construction of Navotas Controlled Disposal Facility began in October 2002 after the DENR granted permit to the local government of Navotas and Phileco to operate the dumpsite.
About 140 trucks of garbage are being transported to the Navotas dumpsite thrice or four times a week.

Navotas Mayor Tobias Tiangco announced yesterday that a 10-hectare property in Barangay Tanza is being developed into a "controlled disposal facility" as mandated by Republic Act 9003 (also known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000) and may be operational before the end of December this year.
Tiangco explained that the garbage collected in Navotas will be dumped at the Vitas transfer station in Manila where they will be loaded into barges and deposited in the Tanza facility.
He said they have mutually agreed on the proposed arrangement where for using the Vitas station, one-and-a-half kilometers away from Tanza, as temporary dumpsite, Navotas, in turn, gives Manila the privilege of dumping its waste at the Navotas facility.
