  Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon Display Recognition
The Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon was estab-lished on September 17, 1968, by Secretary of the Navy John F. Lehman, Jr.
This ribbon is awarded to officers and enlisted personnel of the Navy, Naval Reserve, Marine Corps, and Marine Corps Reserve for 12 months consecutive or accumulated duty at overseas shore-based duty stations.
In the case of inactive reservists, the ribbon is awarded for 30 consecutive or 45 cumulative days of active duty training or temp-orary active duty at overseas stations, including deployed units and units homeported overseas.

An Overseas Service Ribbon is a decoration of the United States military which recognizes those service members who have performed military tours of duty outside the borders of the United States of America.
For those Army service members performing overseas duty prior to 1981, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon may be awarded retroactively, provided that a service member was on active duty subsequent to 1981.
Additional awards of the Air Force Overseas Service Ribbon are denoted by oak leaf clusters and Air Force regulations permit the receipt and wear of both the short and long tour ribbons simultaneously.

A Sea Service Ribbon is an award of the United States Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and the United States Army which recognizes those service members who have performed military duty while stationed on a vessel at sea.
After 1999, for those service members stationed on U.S. vessels home-ported in foreign ports (such as Yokosuka, Japan), the Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon is also authorized for one year of foreign duty and may be awarded simultaneously with the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

When other kids talked about their dads being fireman or doctors or lawyers, I always got a kick out of saying "My daddy helps the planes blow stuff up" His job was that of a sailor and his office was the sea.
She always took us to the base to do fun stuff.(Oh yeah PS dont ever get shots from the base hospital yyeeeeeoooouch.) My fondest memories were always going to the pier to meet dad's ship as it came into harbor.
