Nazr Tahiru Mohammed (born September 5, 1977 in Chicago, Illinois) is a professional basketball player with the NBA's Detroit Pistons.
The son of an immigrant from Ghana, Mohammed was raised in Chicago and attended high school at Kenwood Academy.
Mohammed entered the University of Kentucky in the fall of 1995 at a hefty 315 pounds, and saw little playing time during their NCAA Championship season.

DETROIT (AP) - Nazr Mohammed probably won't be able to duplicate Ben Wallace's ability to defend, rebound and play with energy for the Detroit Pistons.
Mohammed, who turns 29 before next season, has bounced around the league during his career, which started when he was traded by the Utah Jazz after they drafted him with the 29th overall pick in 1998 out of Kentucky.
Mohammed's career averages are 7.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.6 blocks.

Nazr's FT shooting was one of his big selling points when he signed here.
I think Nazr will get a a littel better as the season goes on but starting to sound like he is not quite on the same page as saunders.

As for Nazr, he was out of the game when the Pistons started to turn it on, Mcdyess and Wallace were the ones scoring inside, playing good defense and rebounding.
Nazr is a solid if unspectacular center, even average centers are usually horribly overpaid and hard to come by, signing him wasn't a mistake.
Nazr isn't going to help with that problem but he's looked like a decent one on one defender so far and I think he and Rasheed might end up working better together than anticipated.

Nazr IS a quality center in the NBA especially with the lack of True centers...He can average you a double double a night if given the minutes.

When Mohammed arrived at UK from Kenwood Academy in Chicago, he was 6 feet 10 and 315 pounds.
At the time, Mohammed was sullen over his demotion and questioned why he was one of the few scholarship players out there with all the walk-ons.
I know people talk about Kentucky and say they don't have those NBA players they've had in the past but Nazr Mohammed is going to be a first-round draft choice and if he keeps playing the way he's playing, he'll be a possible lottery pick next year.
