Nazrul Geeti or the songs of Nazrul Islam are inextricably intertwined with the life and spirit of Bengal.
Nazrul was deeply shocked to see that Indians fought among themselves on flimsy grounds as religion, caste, community etc. The Hindus and Muslims who were supposed to live as brothers, drawing nourishment from the same soil and water since aeons, were always spewing venom at each other and acted as sworn enemies.
Nazrul's chorus songs were imbued with intense patriotic fevour and spirit of chivalry which inspired the freedom fighters to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of mother India.

 Kazi Nazrul Islam Summary
Nazrul left the army in 1920, and settled in Kolkata (then Calcutta), which was at the time known as the "Cultural capital of India" and home to many of India's poets, writers, artists and intellectuals.
In 1921, Nazrul was engaged to be married to Nargis, the niece of a well-known Muslim publisher Ali Akbar Khan, in Daulatpur, Comilla.
Nazrul expresses no hesitation in accepting the prostitute as a human being, reasoning that this person was breast-fed by a noble, virtuous woman and belonging to the race of "mothers and sisters," and rejecting society's notions of prostitutes as impure and ignoble persons.

There is a lot of creative joy in singing Nazrul songs and there are similar songs in 'ghazals' where it is on a specific 'raaga' but you have the choice to elaborate it.

About Kazi Nazrul Islam: (Nazrul and Labeling based on fragmented views)   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The presence of Netaji Bose at the program honoring Nazrul at Calcutta's Albert Hall in 1929 is often used by some to hold or give the impression that the eulogy of Bose regarding Nazrul and especially about his songs reflects "close" involvement of Nazrul with Bose and the socialist/communist movement.
Nazrul may have been influenced by his contemporary experience, just as he was influenced, among many other things, by Kamal Pasha's anti-colonial struggle and success.
In one of the manuscripts, Nazrul used the expression "Lal-fouj", which Ahmad recognized as a reference to the Lal-fouj associated with the Russian revolution.

[Nazrul made valuable and rich contribution to Shayma Sangeet, as unlike most authors/composers of Bangla language, he was thoroughly familiar with both Islamic and Hindu tradition and culture, and also he deeply cared about the harmony (or at least, non-antagonism) between Muslims and Hindus.
It should be noted, however, that even though in devotional content one might not be able to guess the writer's background, Nazrul was explicit in explaining himself and his faith.

Nazrul's synthesis is not that let us give up the culture of Azan or the culture of Shonghkho-dhoni and come up with something common in lieu of both.
In conclusion to this part, Nazrul has imbibed from many sources and his messages and works are some in the context of Muslims, some Hindus, some Bengal, some India, and a good deal are purely universal, for all people seeking liberty, justice, harmony and truth.
